Our history

Our history spans over thirty years.  Formed in 1979 as British Electricity International, we were the international arm of the UK's electricity industry, exporting technical and commercial expertise worldwide.  Following the privatisation of the electricity industry, ownership passed to a successor company and from 1996 (re-named as British Power International) we became part of Eastern Group, one of the UK's leading power companies.  Through this we added new and increasingly relevant capabilities associated with operating in liberalised markets - expertise in regulation and power trading and experience of working in gas.

In 1999 we became an independent consultancy practice, and as British Power International we operate in the UK and internationally.

In 2008 we became part of the Freedom Group, which was acquired by the NG Bailey Group in April 2018.  As part of a large and growing provider of outsourced infrastructure support services to the utility sector, we can draw upon a greater breadth of expertise in utility management.
